PITTSBURGH -- On the day he learned the San Diego Padres would go to a six-man rotation to help limit his innings, Christian Friedrich wished hed been able to stick around a little longer.Friedrich gave up four runs and nine hits in six innings Thursday and the Padres lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0.The Padres said Clayton Richard will join the rotation on Sunday. San Diego is in a stretch of 16 consecutive games and wants to keep down the workload of Friedrich (4-8), who threw only 58 1/3 innings in 2015, and 23-year-old Luis Perdomo. The Padres are contemplating shutting down Friedrich entirely at some point in the future.Hes a guy that were very aware of his innings right now, manager Andy Green said. Were looking at the health of the starters with pre-eminent importance right now. With Christian, weve talked openly with him that were not sure how many more starts he has. Im comfortable right now just kind of playing it start-by-start, he said. He feels fine, but when you get over 40 innings above what you were the year before and youre approaching as many youve thrown at any point in time, as an organization, we have to be cognizant of that and put his health at the top of the list.Josh Harrison hit a leadoff double in the first off Friedrich and scored on David Freeses single.Freese hit an RBI double in the third and scored on a single by Gregory Polanco. Harrison singled home a run in the fourth.Similar to last start, just a couple bad pitches, Friedrich said. The fastball (to Freese) was supposed to be down and away and I just left it up.I felt pretty good, just would be happier trying to go deeper into games, obviously, and would like to knock out some of those big-run innings, he said. The Padres couldnt do much against Pirates rookie Jameson Taillon (3-2), who held them to three hits in his eight innings.Neftali Feliz and Tony Watson combined to pitch a scoreless ninth, with Watson earning his fourth save.UP NEXTPadres: Paul Clemens (1-2, 4.61 ERA) will make his third straight turn in the rotation as the Padres begin a three-game series in New York against the Mets. He has not pitched more than five innings in any appearance this season.Pirates: Ivan Nova (8-6, 4.83) will make his second NL since coming over from the New York Yankees at the trade deadline as the Pirates start a three-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers. He gave up three runs in seven innings in his first start with Pittsburgh on Sunday. Mike Piazza Mets Jersey .S. -- Nikolaj Ehlers registered a hat trick for the third straight game and Jonathan Drouin had a goal and five assists as the Halifax Mooseheads hammered the host Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10-1 on Tuesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Umberger scored twice to lead the Blue Jackets to a franchise-record for consecutive wins with a 5-3 victory Tuesday night over the Los Angeles Kings. http://www.metsbaseballauthentic.com/wilson-ramos-mets-jersey/ . Ashley Youngs cross was inadvertently headed by Chester into his own net in the 66th minute, allowing United to claim a third straight league win. "We had to dig deep with our fighting spirit and weve done that," United striker Wayne Rooney said. Keith Hernandez Mets Jersey . Now, with Game 6 set for Fenway Park and an 8:07 p.m. ET first pitch, the Detroit Tigers face the unenviable task of having to beat the Boston Red Sox twice, on the road, to advance to the World Series. SAN DIEGO -- A month-long ordeal ended Monday, when?San Diego Chargers rookie first-round selection Joey Bosa?signed a four-year deal with the team.Scheduled to report on July 29, Bosa remained unsigned for 31 days before coming to an agreement.Bosa is at Chargers Park and will practice on Tuesday, but a team official told ESPNs Adam Schefter that the Ohio State product will not play in San Diegos final preseason game on Thursday against the San Francisco 49ers.Selected No. 3 overall by the Chargers in this years draft, Bosa remained unsigned for over a month, the longest a rookie has withheld his services under the leagues newest collective bargaining agreement established in 2011.We look forward to having Joey join us and getting him prepared as quickly as possible for the 2016 season, said general manager Tom Telesco in a statement.Things turned ugly last week in the contract disagreement, with the team pulling what it called its best offer when Bosa declined to accept it.The Chargers latest offer included paying 85 percent of the signing bonus by December, with the rest paid out in March. Bosas camp reportedly wanted all of the $17 million paid out by December, or the removal of offset language.According to Schefter and multiple reports, the Charrgers compromised on cash flow in Years 2, 3 and 4 of the agreement, giving Bosa the largest upfront signing bonus installment payment in team history for a veteran or rookie player.ddddddddddddBosa compromised on the offset language of the contract, according to Schefter and reports.Bosas salary is pegged at about $26 million over four years, with a $17 million signing bonus.?Traditionally, the Chargers have included offset language in contracts to protect the franchise from paying a players full salary in the event San Diego releases the player during the guaranteed portion of his deal. Think Ryan Leaf.Offset language allows the organization to pay the remaining portion of a players salary not covered by the new team that signs the released player. Without offset language a player can double dip, receiving a full salary from his previous team along with whatever money is negotiated with the new team.Bosas father, John, also was a holdout as an NFL rookie. John Bosa was a defensive lineman drafted No. 16 by the Dolphins in 1987 and held out 41 days before signing his rookie contract, according to ESPN Stats & Information. ' ' '
